When I graduated from Wharton, I was excited yet uncertain about what lay ahead. The path for recent graduates can often look linear—secure a job in finance, consulting, or tech and climb the corporate ladder. My journey, however, took an unexpected turn into the world of a viral AI startup known for its controversial reputation: Cluely.

Cluely has emerged as a significant player in the intersection of technology and education, sparking debates about ethics, learning, and the role of artificial intelligence in the academic realm. Admittedly, I had hesitations. Some labeled it a ‘cheating tool,’ while others praised its potential for helping students rethink how they approach learning. In this enticing dichotomy, I saw an opportunity—a chance to shape how technology could change the educational landscape.

What set me apart in this startup environment was not my coding skills; in fact, I had none. What I did possess was a knack for social media and a solid understanding of digital distribution. This expertise proved to be crucial. By leveraging platforms like TikTok and Instagram, I began spreading the word about Cluely and the unique perspective it provided. I systematically created content that resonated with my peers, making it accessible and engaging

Joining Cluely also placed me in the midst of innovative discourse about technology’s role in education. Rather than merely focusing on the potential ‘cheating’ capabilities of AI, we began shifting the conversation toward how AI can augment learning experiences. I discovered a community of thought leaders who were equally fascinated by the intersection of tech and education. Collaborating with them led me to explore new avenues of outreach and engagement.

In hindsight, taking the leap into a startup like Cluely without a traditional tech background seems unconventional but has been extraordinarily enriching.
