ToggleLike many people, I have parts of my workday I dread. For me, it’s this repetitive task that feels like a waste of time. So when I heard about “vibe coding” with ChatGPT—a way to describe what you want and have the AI write the code to get it done—I thought I’d give it a shot. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I wanted to see if it could really offload some of that drudgery without me having to learn programming first.
Jumping in, I soon realized vibe coding isn’t as smooth as just asking and getting perfect code right away. It took a lot of back-and-forth. I had to keep trying different prompts, clarifying my requests, and fixing little issues in the AI’s suggestions. Sometimes it missed the point or misunderstood what I wanted, so my task didn’t get automated properly. But with persistence, I started to see progress. This process reminded me how important it is to communicate clearly—even with AI—and how patience is key.
While my main goal was to save time, the experience revealed something bigger: a new way to interact with technology. Instead of being a passive user clicking buttons or waiting on others, vibe coding gave me a chance to be a creator—even if that means guiding AI through trial and error. It felt like a partnership where I was teaching the AI by showing it where it got things wrong, and it was learning how to help me better. That dynamic makes me think about future workflows where we’ll probably work alongside AI more closely.
Not everyone wants to learn coding; it can be overwhelming or just not interesting. Vibe coding shows promise by lowering that barrier. But it’s not a magic button yet—it still requires some effort and understanding to make it work well. I think this approach could become a useful skill, much like learning to use spreadsheet formulas or other office tools. It empowers people to customize their work without relying on an expert every time. Yet, users have to be ready for a bit of messing around to get it right.
After my trial and error with vibe coding, I’m both encouraged and realistic. AI can definitely help with boring or repetitive tasks, but it’s not perfect out of the box. You have to be willing to experiment, explain clearly, and maybe tackle a few bumps along the way. If you do, it feels like you gain something more than just automation—you get a new way to shape how your work happens. That feels valuable, especially as AI tools become more common. It’s not about handing over control but sharing it thoughtfully.
