If the US pushes for open‑source standards, smaller economies could join a global ecosystem without paying huge licensing fees. If China succeeds in exporting its own standards, those countries might have to adopt data‑sharing rules that clash with their own privacy laws. Companies that operate across borders will need to decide which set of rules to follow, or try to build systems that can switch between them. My take is that the summit will not end the rivalry, but it might create a framework that prevents the worst of a split. Both sides want to avoid a scenario where their AI ecosystems become completely incompatible, because that would hurt trade and slow progress. A realistic outcome could be a set of baseline agreements on safety testing, data protection, and export controls, while each side continues to develop its own advanced models. If that happens, the world will still see two major AI streams, but they will at least be able to talk to each other. That would be better than a future where every device speaks a different language and the global digital market fragments into isolated islands.
